Florida brought all different groups together to discuss UEB implementation. Florida is a large state with some of the largest school districts in America. Division of Blind Services, Department of Education, Florida Instructional Materials Center for the Visually Impaired, Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, Outreach Services for the Blind/Visually Impaired and Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind, Hillborough County School District, Visual Aid Volunteers of Florida, and many others gathered to discuss getting UEB into the hands of TVIs and children of the state. With the UEB celebration date of January 2016, we will be in the middle of a school year. The school year 14-15 and 15-16 will be so important for all. As books start to be produced in 2016, textbooks for our children will begin to be a mixture of both codes. Discussed was the difference between reading the code and writing the code; many see writing as more challenging for our students (to remember the new rules). Lots of great discussion, a plan to readdress the National Agenda since the last team address was in 2005, and a next meeting date in October will bring the team closer to large collaboration at statewide implementation of UEB and the National Agenda.
